Food on tour: where to eat, what to try

If you have never been to China before and before going on a tour you are cautiously wondering whether they cook normal food there at all or whether you will have to eat sushi and fried grasshoppers, we have good news: no, you won't. Guangdong Province, where the tour takes place, is a world trade center, and the local service sector has adjusted to the preferences of various tourists. So, what is there to eat there?

Hotel food
Most clients eat breakfast at the hotels they stay at during the tour, often near our Foshan office. The hotel menus are nothing extraordinary: they usually offer European breakfasts with traditional oatmeal, toast and coffee.

For example, Swissotel Foshan, which is located in the same building as our office, serves a breakfast buffet with a large selection of familiar dishes - porridge, soups, fruits and vegetables, yogurt and freshly squeezed smoothies.

Food from anywhere in the world
If a client has special preferences, for example, he is a vegetarian or eats only Muslim food, a week on tour is no reason to change his taste habits. For example, Guangzhou - one of the points on the tour itinerary - is the third largest city in China and very modern, so there are restaurants with cuisines of different countries - Mexican, Vietnamese, Indian and others.

A reasonable choice is restaurants of northeastern Chinese cuisine. These are porridge, dumplings, vegetables, meat dishes, all very similar to our Slavic dishes, only with a local flavor.

Fast food
You won't have time to miss McDonalds, Burger King or Starbucks - there are also large fast-food chains here. Another option for a democratic snack - restaurant courtyards or food courts in shopping centers.

You can also eat shawarma if you want. Tell your manager about it - he will show you a couple of secret places with the most delicious shawarma in the city.

Sushi and seafood dishes
Local sushi is a must try: it's not the sushi we're used to, it's much tastier! For bars and restaurants, fish and seafood are caught early in the morning every day, so everything is always fresh.

Seasonal fruits
Southern China has a subtropical climate and fruit grows all year round. If you're touring in spring or summer, you'll be in time for the mango, durian and lychee seasons. If in winter, try local cherries, strawberries and pineapples, in fall - pomelo. The fruit will be peeled and packed right at the market counter so you can eat it in your room.

Hot-pots or "Chinese samovars"
In hot-pot restaurants, a wok divided into two parts stands in the center of the table. In each of them boils broth - spicy and non-spicy. You order ingredients according to your taste (it can be vegetables, meat, fish, seafood, mushrooms or something else), put them in the broth and boil. It's delicious and healthy.

In China, hotpots are incredibly popular. You are here if you want to try traditional Chinese cuisine and try to eat right.

Street food and extreme cuisine
There are plenty of street food stalls in the cities where the tour takes place, but it's best not to try everything, lest you accidentally eat something scaldingly spicy or downright creepy. It's best to consult your guide first.

And yes - we will also help to organize tasting of fried grasshoppers and other extreme gastronomy, for example, take you to a restaurant where silkworm larvae, turtle, snake or scorpion soup will be cooked right in front of your eyes. After all, our service is not just a trip for furniture, but also immersion in another culture, new impressions and emotions.
